What this answer actually tells us.
The business gets mentioned. The software question is still unanswered. Let’s read the wording before deciding what to record.
Fictional businesses and answer, used for illustration.
The question
Which bookkeeping service suits a small design studio using Xero?
The answer excerpt
Northline Books could be worth comparing for a small studio. Studio Ledger may also be an option. Confirm software support and ask about pricing.
No source URL is attached to Northline in this fictional answer.
What I’d put in the worksheet
The mention is straightforward
Northline’s name appears, so “Brand mentioned” gets a “Yes.” The words “could be worth comparing” also suggest it as an option. I’d record “Recommended: Yes” and keep that qualification in the excerpt.
The prompt asks about Xero. The answer says to confirm software support. That’s a useful instruction, but it doesn’t confirm the service can do what the customer needs.
The citation field stays separate
There’s no source URL attached here, so “Own site cited” gets a “No.” Leave the source field blank. Knowing the business’s domain wouldn’t turn it into a citation.
For a real result, inspect the whole response and any Sources panel first. An excerpt can leave out a link.
Then the next answer leaves Northline out.
Suppose a repeated answer names Studio Ledger but omits Northline. Add a record and keep the first. You have a mention followed by an absence under the conditions you saved.
| Illustrative check | Northline mentioned | Suggested as an option | Northline site cited |
|---|---|---|---|
| First answer | Yes | Yes, qualified | No |
| Repeated answer | No | No | No |
These rows are fictional. Even with real answers, calling this “50% visibility” would give a tiny sample rather more authority than it deserves.
Check whether the model, mode, language, location or wording changed. If you can’t establish a comparable setup, say so in the notes. The answers alone don’t explain why Northline appeared or disappeared.
Make the page clearer, then check again.
If Northline really supports Xero but its service page doesn’t explain that, improve the page. Record what changed and when, then repeat the original question later.
You can report the edit and the answers you subsequently observed. Establishing that the edit caused a recommendation would need more evidence. I’d keep that distinction in the report, however tempting the better headline.
